Sofia's blog titled Honors English should be required reading for everyone in this class. If you haven't read it yet, you should!
And if you haven't started reading the The Yearling yet, you should get going on that as well. It is a long book, and the setting is far removed from our world. The dialect in which the characters speak is sometimes confusing, often annoyingly so. Some of you will hate it, but many of you will find it a very good book. And lots of you will cry when you get to the end.
We had three or four folks drop the class this term. Jaraka moved to Idaho, but I am going to leave her as a member of the class because I always enjoyed her blogs and discussion posts.
We have another two or three folks who aren't actually completing all the blog and discussion board entries, but if they shape up now and start getting everything done from here on out, I might let it slide.
This will be a busy term up until Christmas, but there will be very little to do after that point as far as Honors goes. Think ahead! In English, you will all have a research paper and a Shakespeare unit to complete in your regular class. For Honors, you will have to read The Yearling, enter this writing contest, write an essay, and do a blog/discussion entry every week. Start now! Don't wait until you are overwhelmed, especially if you are also planning to read Into Thin Air for science. At this point, you still have plenty of time, but if you put it off too long, you are going to get buried by it all.
