Welcome to the Second Term
Here we go again! As I write this, there is a line of voters waiting their turns at the ballot boxes in our school commons. It is election day. I did my civic duty this morning, and while I was bothered by the long wait, I was impressed that so many people were voting. I have voted in six presidential elections, and never have I waited in line so long to do so. What does that tell us? Some might argue that it shows the populace is galvanized by this important decision. Others would just say its because there are more people now than there were 24 years ago when I first cast a ballot. One way or another, I have to admit to being somewhat depressed by the whole affair this year. Part of the problem is that I am one of only three people in Northern Utah not voting a straight republican ticket. It's not often I end up voting for the candidates who win. I understand the folks who say their vote doesn't count anyway, so why vote? The reason I vote is because I consider it not only a right but a responsibility. If every adult voted, the results of most elections would be drastically different. Assuming this election can be called tonight, I will continue this topic later....
