Educational Acronyms
Most of you won't see this post until the end of the month when your brains return from spring break. This final stretch of the year is when things really go crazy. All the busy-ness makes the time go incredibly fast. Enjoy your final month of ninth grade...
...even though it will include CRTs (criterion referenced tests), which we once called EOLs (end of level tests). These tests are administered as part of U-PASS (Utah Performance and Assessment System for Students), which the USOE (Utah State Office of Education), PTSA (Parent-Teacher-Student Association), and the UEA (Utah Education Association) are hoping will meet the needs of NCLB (No Child Left Behind), which is really just a politically expedient synonym for ESEA (Elementary and Secondary Education Act). Even though none of you are suffering from ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder) or ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder), it will become very difficult to concentrate during the last month of the school year. Before you know it, you will be taking other tests as well: UBSCT (Utah Basic Skills Competency Test), PSAT/NMSQT (Preliminary Scholastic Assessment Test/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test), ACT (American College Test), SAT (Scholastic Assessment Test), and lots of AP (Advanced Placement) tests. I certainly hope none of you have to settle for a GED (General Educational Development) credential. In fact, I am confident that most of you will be going to college: BYU, USU, or U of U (sometimes called simply "The U"). Some of you will likely end up at WSU, SUSC, SLCC. Who knows? Maybe one of you will even go to MIT. And those of you who go on to graduate school will take the GRE (graduate records exam), the MAT (Miller Analogy Test), the GMAT (Graduate Management Admission Test), or the LSAT (Law School Admission Test). This, of course, will depend on your IEP (Individualized Educational Plan), which you probably discussed at your SEOP (Student Education and Occupation Plan) meeting. In college, some of you might become the BMOC (Big Man on Campus), which might not be a PC (Politically Correct) term, but I don't think most girls would want to be known as the BWOC (Big Woman on Campus), do you? If you are an athlete, you might be on the JV (Junior Varsity) team before you make the varsity squad, but one way or another, you have to keep your GPA (Grade Point Average) AOK (All is Okay) or you won't be able to play. Many of you will not only earn your BA (Bachelor of Arts) or BS (Bachelor of Science), but you might continue your education and earn an MA (Master of Arts), MS (Master of Science), MEd (Master of Education), or MBA (Master of Business Administration). Some of you will likely even continue on to pursue a PhD (Philosophical Doctorate), an EdD (Educational Doctorate), an MD (Medical Doctorate) or a DDS (Doctorate of Dental Surgery).
Some of you who want to share all you have learned with others might become teachers, and you might even join the NEA (National Education Association) or the AFT (American Federation of Teachers). By then the WWW (World Wide Web) will be the main clearinghouse for most education in the USA, and at that point you might reflect fondly on all those blogs you had to write and discussion posts you had to complete.
For now, though, just go have some fun...and try to finish reading ToTC ASAP.

Oh wow! That was extremely confusing, but actually made some sense. I don't know what or where I'm going to go to college, but I'm hoping to become a teacher. I hope I can get ToTC done soon. My plan is to have it done when we come back for spring break, but I doubt it.
